Universities Sue ICE to Stop New F1 Student Rule

In response to the announcement from U.S. Immigration Customs and Enforcement (ICE) that all international student with an F1 visa must attend in-person classes or leave the country, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have filed a lawsuit seeking a temporary restraining order and permanent injunctive relief against the policy. Assuming they had the option attending on-campus courses, ICE’s directive would essentially force international students into the unenviable position of imperiling the health of themselves and others or jeopardizing their educations and immigration status. We at Donoso & Partners are committed to the principle of making the United States of America’s considerable educational and research resources available to the international student community and will keep you apprised of further developments in the progress of the lawsuit.
